Mechanical:
Under the hood is
the original 289
with 4 barrel carb
setup. It runs
strong as a horse
and does not leak,
burn oil or
overheat. If treated
well it should drive
another 80,000 miles
no problem.
Connected to it is
the original 4-speed
manual transmission
that shifts easily
and smoothly as it
should. This car
came from the
factory with front
disc brakes. These
were recently turned
and the master
cylinder was
replaced and new
pads were installed
all around. A
thorough check of
all of the brake
lines and system was
also done. Other
recent new parts
include a radiator,
shifter linkage, the
original fuse box
with individual fuse
lines and a
conversion to an
updated non-CFC air
conditioning system,
making it much less
expensive to
service. The car
also came from the
factory with power
steering which works
perfectly.
Body:
This is an extremely
solid very original
and very clean car.
From every angle the
beautiful black
paint shines and the
car gets looks at
every turn and
compliments at every
stop light. No major
sections of sheet
metal have ever had
to be replaced. The
current owner has
had the car for 10
years, during which
time the floor
panels, toe panels,
portions of the
inner rear wheel
housing, rocker
(inner) panels,
frame extensions and
battery tray were
replaced
professionally. New
sheet metal
underneath the car
was epoxy coated
then undercoated for
protection from the
elements.
Chrome and paint on
the car are in great
shape. Many of the
chrome pieces are
original, some have
been replaced with
correct parts. There
is some fading on
the trim around the
convertible top and
the tail lights,
this could either be
polished to look
presentable or
replaced (they are
easy to find) if the
car was to be
restored to showroom
condition. The car
sits on the factory
styled steel wheels
that really make it
stand out from other
Mustangs.
Interior:
The interior of the
car is as clean as
the exterior. The
Pony interior looks
great and all vinyl
panels and carpet
look excellent.
Another rare factory
option on this car
is the Five Dial
Pony Wood grain
Instrument Cluster.
It still looks great
and operates
perfectly. The car
also came with the
GT Rally-Pac
Tachometer & Clock,
both of which are
original and still
working.The Original
Radio is still in
the car but is
disconnected, we
don't know if it
works. The owner
recently installed a
new CD player (in
the glove
compartment) and
speakers and amps in
the trunk. The car
was not cut or
modified in any way
to install the
stereo – no cutting
of the dash or any
other nonsense – so
it can be removed
easily. The only
thing the interior
needs to be show
quality is a little
touch-up of the
black paint, mainly
on the drivers door
where your arm
rests.
GT Stuff
Please note that
this car is a
“dealer option” GT
Mustang. It came out
of the factory 99%
GT, but the final GT
options were put on
by the dealership.
Please review the
mustang expert
website for
information
regarding factory GT
mustangs.
From that list, only
two items on this
car do not meet
Factory GT
specifications:
1) Factory GT’s will
have a code of
either “HCC AX” or
“HCC HW”. This car
has code “HCC AT”,
gear ratio of 27:1.
2) On Factory GT’s,
the rear brake hose
is located on the
upper portion of the
floor pan, about
halfway between the
frame rail and the
driveshaft tunnel.
This car, however,
has the brake hose
located near the
upper portion of the
driveshaft tunnel.
All other
specifications match
Factory GT including
suspension upgrades,
fog light holes etc.
Issues:
1) There is a small
paint flaw on one of
the doors and a
small ding on one of
the rear fenders.
Both are barely
visible to the naked
eye and are easy
fixes.
2) The engine bay is
not clean and needs
to be detailed.
3) The GT badge on
the driver’s side
front fender is
missing, it can be
replaced for $15
(this can be fixed
prior to sale if
necessary)
4) The top does not
leak or have any
major blemishes, and
works well but is
showing its age and
will need
replacement sometime
fairly soon.
5) The AC has a
slight leak from a
hose, it has been
found just not fixed
yet (this can be
fixed prior to sale
if necessary).
